CURRENT
PROJECTS:
Annerley Junction Precinct
Traders Project
We recently received
a grant of $7,000 from the Brisbane City Council to undertake a project to
establish an Annerley Traders Association. Many of the members of this group
are themselves local not for profit second hand traders associated with
church or welfare groups such as Lifeline, Aid for the Blind, Deaf
Association etc. We have secured agreement from staff within the Schools of
Built Environment and the QUT advertising, communications and public
relations students to incorporate the Annerley Junction Project as an
assignment for their students within the curriculum for 1st semester 2006.
The project aims to achieve 3 main objectives:
·
To establish a vibrant local traders group.
·
To develop new promotional strategies for the Annerley Junction
shopping precinct .
·
To undertake an infrastructural needs analysis and a series of other
research projects at the precinct to provide the basis for a further
submission to State and local governments seeking support for community
development and renewal in the area.
The first breakfast was held on 22 February 2006 at Café Ce Jay Ce and was a great success with
approximately 35 traders attending the first of a number of events planned
over coming months. The next breakfast of the traders association will be
held at Cafe Ce Jay Ce at 7am on Wed 29 March.
There will be a poster display of the students interim
project reports held in the bookshop meeting space on Wed 12 April from
10am-1pm and the students will be in attendance to discuss their work. An
additional poster display of the students final projects will be held in the
bookshop meeting space on Wed 14 June from 10am-1pm and the students will again be in
attendance to discuss their work.
All Annerley Traders and
interested members of the public are welcome to attend the student
presentations.

Hospital Patients Reading Resources
We have recently commenced a project where we are liaising with each of the
local hospitals in our inner south side catchment area to regularly refresh
their trolleys and patient libraries from our floor and surplus stock at the
Bookshop. This project is co-ordinated by one of our young volunteers. If you
are interested in helping out with this project or would like more
information on it please contact us.
